Admission to the Combined
Degree Program -High school seniors with a combined Scholastic Aptitude
Test (SAT) score of approximately 1200 and ranking in the top 10
percent of their class or qualified students who have completed
their first year of college study with a 3.50 cumulative average
may apply for admission to the combined degree program.
All applicants for admission
to the combined degree program must satisfy secondary school preparation
in English, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. The high
school grade point average and rank in class, along with the letters
of recommendation from high school teachers, will be of preliminary
importance in evaluating applicant's credentials. Applicants are
required to submit scores of the College Board SAT's verbal and
mathematical components.
After preliminary screening
of the applicants by the Office of Admissions, qualified applicants
will be invited to sit for an interview with the Mercy/PUMS Joint
Admissions Committee
Combined Degree Program
Requirements- While enrolled at Mercy, students are required to
follow the accelerated professional curriculum in biology and are
expected to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point ratio of 3.5
(B+) in all course work and a minimum grade of B in the following
prerequisite courses required for admission to PUMS: Organic Chemistry,
General Chemistry, Biology, Physics, English.
In consonance with the
Mercy mission of providing quality liberal arts education, students
in the combined B.S./M.D. program will be strongly encouraged to
construct a well-rounded degree plan (under advisement) that incorporates
course work in the humanities, liberal arts, social/behavioral sciences
and premedical sciences. Qualifying for Enrollment at PUMS Qualified
students enrolled in the combined degree program will be guaranteed
a seat at PUMS for training in medicine. To qualify, students must
meet the following criteria:
Completion of all FDU
curriculum requirements, including the general education requirements
and all degree program requirements for the major and all prerequisite
courses required for admission to PUMS.
A cumulative grade point
ratio of 3.50 or above
Submission of a satisfactory
Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) score in a timely fashion.
Recommendation by nine
members of the faculty, including the chair or director of the student's
major department or school |
