Student Information

Entering Students are encouraged to visit the USA Office Student Services Web Site for important information about financial aid, forms, and to access their student account information online.

The American Student Government plays an important role at PUMS, including taking new students on an introductory tour throughout Poznan.

The ASG also provides vital information for your trip, and getting around in Poznan. They also have Message Boards and Forums for accepted students. Their web site is http://www.asg.amp.edu.pl.

Website contains information essential to incoming students, including survival guide to life in Poznan, recommended book lists, student discussion forums, book trading, announcements, and more.
Library facilities
Within the University's Library and Information System the collections of the Main Library (2 Parkowa St.) and branch, faculty and institute libraries are available to students. The Library collects publications from the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, nursing, health sciences and primary sciences. Current periodicals and information publications, which are part of the reference library, are freely available in the scientific reading room. In the general reading room it is possible to use printed series of course lectures, textbooks, atlases, dictionaries and encyclopedias. The local lending library lends monographs, textbooks and printed series of course lectures. Standard card indices and computer catalogue databases provide information about the contents of the Library. An e-mail terminal is also available.

The University provides accommodation for foreign students in the Student Dormitories belonging to the University:

All of the required formalities can be arranged at the Office of the Dean, Medical Faculty II, Mondays through Fridays from 11.00 am till 4.00 pm.
From October to June, students can purchase meals in the student canteen of the Medical University at 39 Przybyszewskiego St.
A current bank account can be opened at any bank in Poznan. The recommended bank is PKO BP II Oddzial w Poznaniu (The National Savings Bank, 80A Kosciuszki St.) Residence permits can be obtained from the Civil Affairs Department, Poznan Province Government Office, 17 Plac Wolnosci, tel. 854 1585.
Students are registered in the Administration Office of the dormitory.
Sport and recreation
Students can train and take part in the following activities of the Academic Sport Association: basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, judo and light athletics. Other students can develop their physical fitness during optional classes in gymnastics, aerobics or strength enhancing exercises. Skiing camps are organized during the winter break and in the summer students can attend a sport and training camp in Sieraków or go on canoeing trips in Drawsko Lake District. In the summer holiday period there are no classes but the tennis courts, jogging track and football pitch are available for use.

Students' accident insurance can be obtained from the respective Deans' Offices: Deans' Office of Faculty of Medicine I, at 10 Fredry St., tel. 852 11 61; and the Deans' Office of Faculty of Medicine II, Mondays to Fridays. Other forms of insurance should be obtained in the student's home country. Foreign students are provided with health care by a doctor of internal medicine at the General Out-Patient Clinic of the University of Medical Sciences, 39 Prybszewskiego Street, tel. 869 44 18, every day between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm. The student will bear the costs of diagnostic and laboratory tests and of specialist and hospital treatment.

New information as of 2003:
According to the new rules in Polish Insurance Law, Students-foriegners(who do not have a Polish passport) who are studying and staying in Poland on the basis of the temporary residence card may be subjected to the voluntary health insurance in Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (Medical Insurance Company).

To be insured in that way, a student should:

1. reach a written agreement (umova) with Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ) in its office on 14/15 Piekary Street (you need the temporary residence card to do it)
2. fill out the application form (wniosek), available in the office of NFZ;
3. fill out the ZUS ZZA form (druk ZUS ZZA) and hand it in the office of Zaklad Ubezpieczen Spolecznych within 7 days from the day you reach an agreement;
4. pay the fee (premium) ill the 15th of each month in the amount of 32,40 zloty using ZUS blank form in any bank or post office and keep the receipt. It is important that this fee be paid each month on time.
